Journal, week 12
This week's shift held an unexpected surprise. The weekly all-staff meeting began as usual this morning, but after going through building and event updates, Karin Wulf, JCB's director and librarian, announced that the curatorial team would be holding a "show-and-tell" to highlight some recent acquisitions they'd been especially proud of. José Montelongo, the Maury A. Bromsen Curator of Latin American Books, presented first, and showed us a few collections of letters as well as a first-edition Cervantes manuscript. Bertie Mandelblatt, the George S. Parker II '51 Curator of Maps and Prints, exhibited a very large carta marina universalis (a world map, literally a "universal maritime charter") and discussed some of the symbolism of the artistic flourishes along its borders.
After this, I caught up Allison on the work I'd completed while she was out and continued to move through CR items. I don't have very much to report from this week otherwise.
